“There’s something especially captivating about intimate stories set against huge sweeping backdrops,” says Elliott Hasler, who credits Lawrence of Arabia and its Director, David Lean, as an early inspiration. Conversely, it was a humble school project to make a short film in a week that first piqued his interest in filmmaking.
After that, Elliott’s career was unusually quick off the blocks. He started writing his first full-length feature film at just fourteen, completing production within two years. WWII: The Long Road Home went on to premiere at the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals in 2017. Culture Trip Magazine hailed it “A miracle achievement for the schoolboy director”.
Determined to build on his early success, Hasler has since written and directed two short films, and has recently finished post-production on his second feature – Vindication Swim, which is due for release later this year.
